Classes and descriptions:
squire- best block in the game, has a shield(very good auxillary slot because it can get good prefixes on it) good aoe as knowledge build with tornado and war cry. passable, maybe even good aoe as power with shield throw and tank crash. both builds are strong in pvp (less so knowledge due to enemy priest's tower)
warrior- has 3 viable builds, power/dp build, water dragon build, wind warrior build. all of these are pretty good in pve and pvp, although wind probably feels the best to play because it's aoe is instant or close to it. power/dp build feels very clunky imo, but a lot of people like it. water dragon build hits pretty hard, but the damage ticks are over 3-5 seconds and requires dhearts unless you kill in 1 cast.
archer- good aoe and single target on both builds. the only ranged class with built in block(you can use misty on other people but it's kind of inconvenient). 2 good builds, power uses spreading arrow and interval shooter for aoe, machine arrow or glider for single target. knowledge build uses waterfall or gliding fire (idr the name) for aoe, dual arrow or gliding fire for single target.
lancer- great aoe and single target as knowledge, great aoe and very high single target damage as power. will use steel rain for aoe, entrapment piercing for single target, javelin throw or ground shaker for stuns, armor disassembler for dp% reduction. knowledge will use elemental force/fire and ice, or radial arc for aoe, and radial arc for single target. good mobility, cc, and damage, low survivability in pvp unless invested in block speed rings.
tamer- rough early game. decent aoe, very good single target damage. rock elemental pet things(not sure of location) or the burst of water pets(moliner 4f or 6f?) for aoe, squire bois(pink demons in gold swamp cave) for single target damage. not many defensive skills but high mobility and difficult to target with riding kelby from summoner side, also can build pure health if u want. strong in pvp
summoner- mostly magic damage, rough early game. great aoe, decent single target. gale punch is their main source of damage, aqua bamboo is very strong in pvp due to magic reflect(damage return but for magic damage, and applies to every ally in the bamboo) same defensive skills as tamer.
thief- strong single target, lackluster but viable aoe as power, at least decent aoe as knowledge, maybe strong(haven't really tried it). the assassination awaken is terrible for pve and pvp as far as i've tested. tons of cc from disarm, disturbance and ankle traps. strong buff with poison neutralization, also removes most status conditions/debuffs. low survivability in pvp as illusion cooldown is 30 seconds or up to like 90 seconds if it bugs out, which happens fairly often. also you can't have both illusions and misty all the time, as misty disappears when you change class. high targeted mobility, requires a lot of gear to be strong in pvp.
monk- strong single target and aoe. i recommend 3step kick awaken for pve (use dropping punch/sonic chop to group monsters together, then use 3step) until you can 1hit with chi ball(2 second cooldown means long kill times if you can't 1hit). jab awaken is pretty much only good for pvp, but it excels in that area. arguably the tankiest class in the game between having the best sidestep, illusions and you can put misty on top of it. the only other contender for survivability imo is beastman.
priest- decent aoe with holiness awaken, strong single target with blinding shield awaken or exorcism awaken. blinding shield does wind damage when awakened, exorcism can be physical, hybrid or light damage. lots of supportive skills with several heals, a revive, call(teleports party to you) on angel side, tower(heals you and/or allies effected by it for a large % of magic/ranged damage dealt to you/them), elemental guardian gives a lot of magic strengthen, bless gives an hp buff, ward gives a dp buff. has a shield. tower transcendence gives a shield for a % of your hp to yourself or an ally. medium survivability.
angel- very strong aoe with judgement day and holy cross, good single target with wings of blood as knowledge, best single target in the game with heavenly pressing and reminiscence(if you can hit with heavenly pressing) as power, lackluster aoe. has some supportive skills such as stun, dispel(removes buffs and reduces cp), call, sanctuary(damage immune for a few seconds). with the holy cross transcendence skill, has very strong healing/shielding ability while dealing damage. medium survivability with trans skill, otherwise low survivability.
mage- very strong aoe with meteor(although it can bug and not cast, but still go on cooldown), lackluster single target. strong aoe with ice field and burst of water, high single target damage with ice field and burst of water. critical hit is good for single target in pve, not so much in pvp. critical hit build not recommended. very high mobility with teleport, good cc with water skills and bindings of the earth, medium-high survivability with heal and mobility. good buffs with haste and smoke.
wolf- good single target, bad aoe as power build(claws of rending flesh awaken). decent aoe/single target as health/luck build. very strong in pvp vs people without block, but most people will have block from misty. ignores crit resistance. knowledge wolf i've heard has very good aoe and single target, with burning orb though i haven't really seen one in action. low survivability except with health/luck build, as they're very hard to target.
princess- power build and health/luck transformation build seem mediocre overall, knowledge build is very strong single target, lackluster aoe. not recommended for a new player as grinding single target/small aoe is very slow and frustrating. high survivability with heals, rabbit form, jumping skipping, and weapon changer. strong cc with frog transformation.
witch- power build is very high single target with galaxy scattering and comet launch, decent aoe with galaxy scattering. knowledge build is very high aoe damage with florence special(requires trans skill or dxu/umu armor with no transformation slot unlocked or using and standing in rose garden), lackluster single target. really good cc with rabbit rush, magic box, and frog transformation on princess side. decent buffs with name of justice and battle march. really good debuffs with ultra nova. low survivability.
necromancer- strong-very strong single target, lackluster aoe. not recommended in general. has some useful debuffs, but a lot of them were nerfed really hard so they don't really activate in pvp and have long cooldowns. the only real aoe skill as far as i'm aware is devil illusion awaken. plot of shadows is a good single target, while it takes a few seconds to deal damage, it hits very very hard. low survivability.
demon- very strong single target with bind blaze and contract awaken(uses contract and annulment contract), small but strong aoe with contract awaken, strong aoe with poison awaken(basically get/use all the poison/cloud skills), strong debuffs/cc but long cooldowns. low survivability.
spiritualist- power builds: strong aoe (typhoon slash and windmill slash) strong single target with milling and fatal slash. knowledge build is a bit unexplored, could be strong theoretically using mind disease and spirit expelling. strong cc for all builds, some are applied on hits at a chance, some are standalone cc skills medium survivability due to sheer stat advantage over everyone else with release skill.
champion- use a possession skill until the buff appears over your head, then use hawk dissector until you're glowing, 1 hit each that lands should do it. strong but kinda small aoe with last bullet, strong single target with last bullet. knowledge build seems useless, but i'm not entirely sure about it. has the same stat advantage as spirit cuz u can just transform, use it and transform back. high survivability between stat advantage and magic reflect that also reduces the amount of magic hits taken on reflection skill. fixed 40% crit rate with possession puma allows for easy "purity" injection in both pve and pvp if you otherwise can't crit.
opticalist- strong aoe and decent single target as both builds. power uses skills that apply and detonate beats, i'm guessing they primarily use codestruction and damage spread, but i'm not sure. knowledge uses redeye open and optical hole and both builds have a bunch of passives. knowledge build also gets a 30% magic crit buff, which is very strong for you and your allies. between it's 2 invulnerability skills gleam tent and time control(albeit with long cooldowns) and 15% magic avoidance passive, i'd say their survivability is medium.
beastman- this is the ultimate hybrid class. 2 of it's awakens are geared toward being hybrid with a focus on one type of damage, with the other being supplementary damage. both of which are very strong in both pve and pvp in terms of damage and survivability. power has better single target, knowledge has better aoe, but both are good at both. the power focused build will use unbeaten twin sword for aoe, and trace cross with the finalizing pressure and unicorn horn passives, they can also use turn against for damaging people or monsters that attack you. knowledge focused builds will use phantom blade storm(high cp cost, might require dhearts, but maybe you can get away with pots or double cp charge pets) with the multi boomerang slash passive for aoe and single target. the 3rd awaken is pretty much for pvp only, it seems decent but not fantastic. the goal of that build is to get people to attack you, and then they get hit by a stronger version of turn against. has a block, sidestep, and damage debuff, making them very hard to kill and they have decent mobility with their dash skill. they have some cc in the form of slows and knockbacks, but they're not great.
maid- very strong single target, good but small aoe. this class was also initially meant to be hybrid, but i'm not sure where hybrid maid builds stand right now. power build hits very hard with crazy rush and do not disturb cleaning, crazy rush can drop plates, which give a huge damage boost on your next attack. knowledge maid seems like it's got decent single target and aoe with do not disturb cleaning+strip dress, and naples double wave respectively. medium survivability with a sidestep called save my master.
demon sorceress- very high single target and aoe damage. single target skills are halberd, underworld armory, and thermanny void. aoe skills are black star of disaster, with dark explosion activating on black star of disaster cast. on/off skills are pretty situational, so play around with them in different scenarios and see what you like best. magic field plague reduces enemy dark res, magic field thorns and dimensional door key increase magic crit chance. they also have a sidestep skill called phase mutation. they have self buffs in the forms of a move speed increase and additional damage on magic skills that can be used on yourself and others. survivability is medium, cc is limited, just a slow.
musketeer- single target damage is high with checkmate, aoe damage is high but in a very small area with grand finale and awakened curtain time. the third awakening does incredibly high single target/small aoe damage with party full swing. it shoots in a small cone, and can 1shot people in pvp if well geared and within it's short range.
alchemist- good aoe damage and single target with all awakens, very strong in pve with water awaken, which requires basically no gear. has very strong attack speed/move speed buffs(has the same scaling as haste on infuse breeze, that also stacks with haste. then that attack speed value is multiplied by a % from one of the on/off skills. fire awaken playstyle is applying an ember, then detonating the ember. earth is fusing with your homunculi to do aoe, single target or healing, water alch is putting a poisonous puddle on the ground that ignores damage reduction in pve, so kills everything very easily. in pvp earth is good unless the enemy has a priest nearby using tower, in which case you do almost 0 damage. water isn't very good in pvp at all as even its heals are changed with the awakening to not heal anymore. fire seems like it could be decent or even pretty strong in pvp, but i haven't really seen anyone try it. survivability with earth/fire awakens is medium since they have heals and more potion recovery than other classes(not a crazy amount anymore, but it's still significant as potion recovery is a hard thing to get from multiple sources). water alch is low survivability since they have no heals.
